    1. Festival(Proper Noun) Bihu is a national and unique festival of Assamese community. The word ‘Bihu ’ seems to be come from the Sanskrit word ‘Visuvot’. The word ‘Visuvon’ is related to the number of Indian festivals that are associated with the equinox. Basically Bihuis a festival related to the agriculture of Assamese community. People pray the god ‘Surjyadevota’ after doing various religious rituals. Even domestic animals are also prayed during Bihu festival. It is an Assamese festival irrespective of caste and religion. Basically Bihu is of three types – Bohag Bihu or Rongali Bihu , Kati Bihu or Kongali Bihu and Magh Bihu or Bhogali Bihu . Of late, Bihu has come out from the limited boundary of villages and become famous worldwide. বিহু অসমীয়াৰ জাতীয় তথা স্বকীয় উৎসৱ । ‘বিহু’ শব্দটো সংস্কৃত ‘বিষুবত’ শব্দৰ পৰা অহা বুলি ধাৰণা কৰা হয় । বৈদিক ‘বিষুবন’ শব্দই এবছৰ ব্যাপী হোৱা ‘সত্ৰ’ বা ‘যজ্ঞ’ৰ মাজৰ দিনটোক বুজায় । অৰ্থাৎ দিন আৰু ৰাতি সমান হোৱা দিনটোক বুজায় । এই দিনটোক মকৰ সংক্ৰান্তি বুলি কোৱা হয় । কিছুমান পণ্ডিতে অসমীয়া ‘বিহু’ শব্দটি সংস্কৃত ভাষাৰ ‘বিষুবন’ শব্দৰ লগত মিল থকা বুলি ধাৰণা কৰিছে । বিহু প্ৰধানত অসমীয়াৰ কৃষিৰ লগত জৰিত এটা উৎসৱ । বিহু উৎসৱত বিভিন্ন ধৰ্মীয়কৃত্য উদযাপন কৰি আৰু গৰু-মহ আদি পোহনীয়া জন্তৰ কল্যান কামনা কৰি সূৰ্য্যদেৱতাক স্তুতি কৰা হয় । বিহু অসমীয়া সমাজত জাতি, ধৰ্ম, বৰ্ণ নিৰ্বিশেষে সকলোৱে ৰং-ধেমালিৰে পালন কৰে । বিহু প্ৰধানত তিনি প্ৰকাৰৰ – বহাগ বিহু অথবা ৰঙালী বিহু, কাতি বিহু অথবা কঙালী বিহু আৰু মাঘ বিহু অথবা ভোগালী বিহু । থোৰতে ক’বলৈ হ’লে বিহু হৈছে চ’ত, আহিন আৰু পুহ মাহৰ সংক্ৰান্তিত হোৱা অসমীয়া জাতিৰ বিশেষ আকৰ্ষণীয় আৰু আনন্দৰ উৎসৱ । সম্প্ৰতি বিহু অসমৰ গাঁও-ভুয়তে সোমাই নাথাকি সমগ্ৰ বিশ্বতে সমাদৰ আৰু যশস্যা লাভ কৰিবলৈ সক্ষম হৈছে ।
