XOBDO Transliteration Scheme 2013

The following scheme to write English words in Assamese scripts is adopted.

Objective: To standardize the writing of English words using Assamese scripts. The need was felt as more and more English words are being used in Assamese, without a common scheme of transliteration. Various schema are proposed and used by different entities over time, but none of them adopted across the board, often creating confusion/ambiguities. The following scheme adopted by XOBDO.ORG, to be referred and used by any interested parties.

Assumptions:
1) Simple and easy to remember with minimum ambiguities.
2) Attempt is made to capture common pronunciations of English words by native Assamese speakers, rather than correct British or American English pronunciations.
